Irene Bowers is administrative secretary to Steve Douglas, president of the WVU Alumni Association. Irene grew up in Green County, Pa., which is only 10 miles away from Morgantown, and she still lives there today. She has been working for WVU for 30 years and joined the WVU Alumni Association in 1994.
In her position, Irene is responsible for the administration of the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF), the Association’s scholarship program and assists Steve with day-to-day activities.
Irene loves her job and says that one of the best aspects of her job is being able to work with students. She enjoys listening to their different ambitions and hopes.
She and her husband, Warren, have been happily married for 44 years and they have three children and six grandchildren.
In her free time, Irene enjoys playing with her grandchildren, gardening and playing piano. She loves music and has been a pianist for her church for 30 years.
