Phillip D. “Phil” Gaujot received a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1968 and his law degree in 1971, both from WVU.

After “retiring” in 2003, the Morgantown native worked part time as an administrative law judge for Workforce West Virginia. In August 2009, Gaujot was sworn in as the new circuit judge in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Monongalia County.

Phil began his career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of West Virginia in 1971. He started working in general practice in 1973 and continued to work in Charleston and Morgantown until his retirement. He has been a past member of the Board of Directors of the Mon General Hospital Foundation and a past member of Session of the First Presbyterian Church in Morgantown.

In his free time, Phil enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, skiing and cheering for the Mountaineers. He also enjoys traveling with his wife, Carol, a 1968 graduate of WVU, and spending time with their granddaughter, Katya. He and his wife reside in Morgantown and have two sons, Phillip and Ryan.
