John T. Fahey, Vice Chairman
John is Senior Vice-President of United Bank Incorporated (NASDAQ: UBSI). He received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the College of Business and Economics and holds graduate degrees from both WVU and Georgetown University.
John is a 29-year career marketing professional who has held positions in manufacturing, higher education, the computer industry and, since 1991, in banking. He is co-founder of Centra Bank Incorporated (OTC: CFHZ), now United Bank, which was recognized by both Entrepreneur and INC magazines as one of the top financial service companies in the country and identified by the investment banking community as the third fastest growing bank in the nation.
John continues to run his family’s property and natural resource business in Central West Virginia and a real property investment group in Southern Florida.
He has been actively engaged in the life of WVU for more than two decades. He has served on numerous boards and committees including the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the University’s Homecoming Committee, the Visiting Committee for the Health Sciences School of Nursing, the Mountaineer Athletic Club and WVU’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni Selection Panel.
While at WVU John was active in student government, campus events and served on then President Gordon Gee’s Student Advisory Council where he was particularly known for his work with the West Virginia Legislature on issues that directly affected WVU. Immediately following his graduation, he accepted a public affairs position with the President’s newly formed division of Institutional Advancement and served for two years before accepting employment in the private sector.
The third of three siblings in his family to graduate from WVU, John is a native of Weston in Lewis County, W.Va., and resides in the Cheat Lake area of Morgantown. His local involvement includes Secretary of The Salvation Army, member of Morgantown Rotary, advisor to and Past Campaign Chair of the United Way and a Mylan Park volunteer.
