Michael Ellington
Michael Ellington is in his 27th year at WVU where he currently serves as interim assistant vice president of Student Affairs. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1985 and a master's degree in 1991, both from WVU.
As assistant VP of Student Affairs, Michael develops and supports West Virginia University's goal of providing a safe haven for its students through standard, integrative and alternative programs, including the Jump Start Series, WVUp All Night, FallFest and Festival of Ideas, among others.
Michael spent eight years with the University of Maryland - Baltimore County Campus and returned to the WVU in 1993, where in 1995, he became director of the WVU Mountainlair. He was named to his current position in 2004.
He has been involved with a host of regional and national education organizations, including Phi Delta Kappa, where he served as immediate past president; the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), serving as conference program committee member; and the Committee on Multi-Ethnic Programs, where he served as president. He also serves on the National Association of Auxiliary Services and is president of the Morgantown Rotary Club.
Michael is a noted speaker at ACUI conferences, National Association of Student Personnel Administration and WVU alumni and Mountaineer Parents Club functions, providing a "service" perspective on WVU's late night and weekend programs.
Michael and his wife, Joy, reside in Grafton, W.Va.
