James Gardill

James Gardill, '73 JD, is a partner in the law firm of Phillips, Gardill, Kaiser & Altmeyer, PLLC, with offices in Wheeling, W.Va. He has been associated with the firm in commercial, tax and estate planning practice for more than 30 years.

Jim attended Wheeling College and received an A.B. degree from West Liberty State College. After serving two years in the United States Army, he received his law degree from WVU. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and various federal and state courts.

Jim is a member of the Board of Directors of Wheeling Hospital, Inc., the Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center, Inc., the Reynolds Memorial Foundation, Inc., Reynolds Memorial Healthcare System, Inc., the West Virginia Catholic Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Upper Ohio Valley. He formerly served on the board of directors of WesBanco Bank, Inc. and WesBanco, Inc., having served on the Boards for approximately 23 years, and as chairman for approximately 13 years.

Jim has lectured on a variety of commercial law related subjects and is a former lecturer at the Tri-State Institute, Commercial Law Institutes and other continuing education programs. He also served as an adjunct lecturer at the College of Law at WVU.

Jimís immediate family is actively associated with WVU. His wife, Linda Truban Gardill, completed her undergraduate and graduate work at the University having received her masterís degree in 1972. His son, Chris, and daughter, Catherine, are 2002 and 2004 graduates of the College of Law. His daughter, Rebecca, received her masterís degree in Education in June 2004 from the University. Collectively, the family has received three undergraduate degrees and five graduate degrees from WVU.
